Wheeldon Opticians - History

Richard Wheeldon opened his Chemist shop on Burton Road, West Didsbury in 1896 (pictured). 30 years later, his son Harold started Wheeldon Opticians on the site known as The Terminus on Palatine Road in West Didsbury after the First World War. His son John joined him in 1947 and the expansion led to 10 Wheeldon practices around the South Manchester area. In more recent times, John’s two sons, David and James, run the business from the three practice addresses and endeavour to continue the company’s ethos of delivering a quality service.
